Stop It Michael Jordan GIF

You heard the man - just stop it.

Stop “wanting” it to happen, stop “wishing” it would happen and start making it happen, captain.

Make what happen, you might ask?

I have no idea. But you know. You know deep down the thing that you keep holding back on because of fear of something.

Look, I am the greatest offender of this. I will be the first to admit it. But one day, I said, “It’s time to ride and then jumped in.”

Also, don’t we want to embark on a journey that makes ourselves, our wives, and our kids proud?

Starting this newsletter was a big piece of that puzzle for me.

What might that be for you?

Someone once told me “Hope is not a strategy.”

Let that marinate this week and get clear on a new strategy.

WISDOM
Pay attention to what successful people pay attention to.

(S/o to My First Million podcast host Shaan Puri for putting me on to this. Check out the episode here).

I know this sounds almost too trivial, but hear me out. Here is a quick exercise:

Who in your life do you admire and want to model your life after? (This could be someone near you i.e. a family member or mentor OR someone well-known that you have never met but look up to.)

Now, think about conversations you have either had with that person or have listened to/watched featuring that person.

What during that conversation did they particularly lean into, ask follow-up questions about or focus their attention on?

If you listen closely, it can teach you a lot about how that person thinks which is likely why they are successful and why you look up to them in the first place.

Successful people are successful for a reason. They think differently and usually think many steps ahead.

Let’s lean in!

ACTION
Become a better writer through copywork.

You probably are wondering what writing has to do with being a better man, husband and father….

I would argue a whole heck of a lot.

If you can write well, you can likely communicate well. And as husbands and fathers, we all know the value in communication….

Here is a simple breakdown of copywork as told by Sam Parr, a fellow Belmont University grad (Go Bruins):

The best way to get better at writing: find writing you like and copy it...word for word..by hand.

It's called copywork. And it's amazing.

Do it for 30 minutes a day.

Books, famous blog posts, newspaper articles, movie scripts, prolific speeches, etc.

Whatever you want to write like, copy it. Word for word.

Side note: He sold his newsletter business for $27 million, so yeah, I think he is pretty credible in writing well.

James Presbitero, Jr. adds to this in his blog post by saying copywork will increase your vocabulary, help you understand the rhythm of good writing as well as help you understand structure and style.

In other words, by copying other’s works, you will learn how to distinguish good writing from bad writing.

Remember fellas - being a solid writer can translate into being a better communicator and that will only benefit us in the long run.

That’s it and that’s all, folks!
